Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson of IT major HCL Technologies, topped the list of the richest women in the country with a net worth of Rs 54,850 crore, according to Hurun India and Kotak Wealth Management’s ‘Kotak Wealth Hurun – Leading Wealthy Women’ report released on Thursday.
The list is based on the net worth of women as on September 30, 2020. “The 2020 edition of the report focuses exclusively on women who play an active role in their family business, entrepreneurs and professionals,” the organisation said in its statement.
1. Roshni Nadar
Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the only child of HCL’s founder and billionaire industrialist Shiv Nadar. In July this year, she was elected as the chairperson of HCL Tech after her father stepped down from the role. As per the Kotak Wealth Hurun – Leading Wealthy Women 2020 list, she is the most successful woman having a total wealth of Rs 54,850 crore.
She is also the CEO and Executive Director of HCL Corporation, the holding company that controls HCL Tech and HCL Infosystems. Roshni graduated with a degree in Communications from Northwestern University and completed her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. Prior to joining HCL, she has worked at Sky News UK and CNN America as a news producer.
2. Smita V Crishna
Second in the top 10 richest women in India, Smita V Crishna with a networth of INR 31,400 crores is the owner of one-fifth of the Godrej Group along with her brothers. She has also purchased a bungalow belonging to Dr. Homi J Bjaba, the renowned late atomic physicist in a deal worth Rs. 371 crores. Godrej is dealing with consumer durables.
3. Kiran Nadar
Kiran Nadar ranks third in the list with her net worth estimated at INR 25,100 crores. She is the wife of the founder of HCL. Notably, HCL is one of the most popular software and services providers in India headquartered in New Delhi.
4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw with a networth of INR 18,500 crores is the fourth topper in the list of India’s richest women. She is the chairman and managing director of Bicon India Group, which is a leader in the pharmaceutical industry in India.
5. Manju D Gupta & family
Manju D Gupta & family has a net worth of INR 18,000 crores and ranked as the fifth richest women in India. She is the chairman of Lupin Ltd, based in Mumbai. This company is among the forerunners in the pharmaceutical industry in India.
6. Leena Gandhi Tewari
The sixth richest woman in India is Leena Gandhi Tewari and her net worth is INR 13,200 crores. She is the chairman of USV Pvt. Ltd., with the firm mainly focusing on biotechnology and pharmaceutical supplies. The company manufactures generic medicines across a wide spectrum of medical needs.
7. Vembu Radha
With a net worth of INR 9,900 crores, Vembu Radha ranks seventh in the list of top 10 richest women in India. Since 2007, she has been holding the position of product manager with Zoho Mail. Under her able guidance, the company has been holding a prime position in the software and services arena.
8. Nilima Motaparti
Nilima Motaparti has a net worth of INR 9,800 crores and holds the eighth position among the top 10 richest women in India. She is on the board of Divi’s Laboratories Ltd based in Hyderabad in addition to being the board member of 10 other companies. Divi’s Laboratories is delivering products in the pharmaceuticals arena.
9. Jayshree Ullal
Jayshree Ullal has a net worth of INR 9,800 crores which ranks her in the ninth position among the top 10 richest women in India. She has 5% stocks in Arista Networks based in San Francisco. The company is a pioneer firm in the software and services arena.
10. Sangita Jindal
Sangita Jindal is the chairperson of the JSW Foundation and has a net worth of INR 9,600 crores. She is ranked as the 10th richest woman among the top wealthy women in India. Based in Mumbai, her firm is a popular player in the Metals and Mining segment in India.
